Is there a Sachin Tendulkar inside God?

Why is Sachin Tendulkar called god? Kartik Dayanand Boddapati - Mind u Read

Ever since Sachin Tendulkar announced his retirement from international cricket, thousands of articles have been written about him, adding to the millions that are already in existence. I tried to read most of the pertinent ones but somehow I never found a convincing answer to the one question that always haunted me...

Why is Sachin Tendulkar called God?

I also asked my friends on Twitter; they came up with some interesting observations, but the complete answer eluded me. I then saw Sachin Tendulkar's farewell speech at the Wankhede. That speech brought tears to my eyes for reasons that seemed to defy logic. Based on what he spoke, I wondered further...

What if the question changed from...why is Sachin Tendulkar called God? to...what if there is a Sachin Tendulkar inside God?

A bizarre thought, but the answers that came up really baffled my mind. Here is what I figured out, summarized in ten points.

God and Sachin Tendulkar!
  1. God isn't perfect - he doesn’t win every match for us; yet...
  2. No matter what the situation is - we gain strength by just knowing that he is a part of our team. As long as he is around, we have faith - we believe we can never lose.
  3. Quantifying God through mere statistics and numbers is a futile exercise. The joy derived out of a beautiful sunset or a rainbow can't be quantified, just like a Sachin straight drive.
  4. God always gives his 100%, nothing less will do. He chases dreams without resorting to shortcuts.
  5. God is always on time, never late for the bus. It is this clockwork discipline that lets him continue to be on top of the game despite the years piling up.
  6. It is we people, the mortals who put God on a pedestal. God on the other hand is very humble - we never hear him boast or for that matter, even speak. He only lets his actions do all the talking.
  7. God values relationships - he wants us to be nice human beings first. Mothers have the most special place for him - their prayers to keep him fit and healthy and safe are his secret superpowers.
  8. Whether he scores a 0 or a 100, we continue to have faith in him. That means a lot to him.
  9. God is continuously trying to improve himself. He believes he would have been a lesser God if he did not hear our feedback.
  10. Our prayers give him strength. Chants like Sachiiiin Sachiiin are an important source of his energy - they egg him on to do better. Even God needs encouragement.
Having realized the above - Sachin Tendulkar the player might retire, but Sachin Tendulkar the man will continue to exist as a God to many, for the lines between the divine and the mortal have ceased to exist ages ago and for good reason!

I don’t think I have to say anything more.

Cheers!!!
Kartik Dayanand

Bonus point: Sachin loves to receive encouragement from the media and read good things about him, even God likes the same. Don't believe me? Then read this - God sent me a friend request on Facebook!

  2. Nice one! Your post makes one to think about Sachin in a different angle. More than the statistics,it is the way he carried himself over the years, which gave him a god like stature. We,as Indians are fortunate to have witnessed such a legendary man play the sport.

    He will be missed.

  3. This one is not my cup of tea (or coolaid). I agree with most of your other posts. This one I'm ducking. I'm sure Sachin cringes everytime he sees his name mentioned next to God. Any humble person such as Sachin would IMHO. Out of respect for him I would never use that word for him. He is the best in his business and a role model. He could also be worshipped as a hero who brought laurels to his country. Give him 2 more Bharat Ratnas.
Comparing him with God is an insult to Sachin, atheists, religious people and God Himself in the true sense. Ofcourse this article would gel well with the people affected by thier extreme positive emotions.
Again lets be reasonable people! We are a country with highest number of fake babas...apart from the abuse by polititians based on religion and faith in God. Lets tread carefully before calling anyone a God.

  4. Excellent article Kartik, but I truly think that his cover drive is the most amazing shot he ever plays. Such elegance and balance...its like a Mozart symphony
